Authors: Maurer N, Nissel H, Egerbacher M, Gornik E, Schuller P, Traxler H Abstract For more than 2500 years, acupuncture has been applied to support the healing of different diseases and physiologic malfunctions. Although various theories of the meridian system and mechanisms were formulated to explain the functional basis of acupuncture, the anatomical basis for the concept of meridians has not been resolved. The aim of the present study was to search for replicable anatomical structures that could relate to meridians. To this end, four human specimens and additionally two lower legs were dissected anatomically. ...

Conclusions: In the treatment of lumbar disc herniation, Tuina and acupuncture were superior to traction or Chinese herbs, and the effectiveness of traction was the worst. However, considering the limitations of this review, more high-quality trials, especially those comparing Chinese herbs with the other three interventions, should be carried out in the future to further confirm the current findings. Authors: Tan L, Zeng L, Wang N, Deng M, Chen Y, Ma T, Zhang L, Xu Z Abstract Traumatic brain injury (TBI) has become an economic and social burden for patients and their families. While acupuncture is an effective tool for promoting recovery of disorder of consciousness (DOC) following TBI, there have been no comprehensive meta-analyses and/or systematic reviews addressing this topic. The present systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the therapeutic efficacy of acupuncture for DOC after TBI. All randomized controlled trials (RCTs) incorporating acupuncture, or acupuncture combined with other intervent...

In this study, to examine the effect on the restoration of immune cells and balance in the immune system, we utilized a cisplatin-induced immunosuppression mouse model. Mice were injected intraperitoneally with cisplatin, an immunosuppressive anticancer, and then received oral doses of 100, 250, and 500 mg/kg of HemoHIM for 14 days. The HemoHIM prevented the cisplatin-induced loss of body and organ weight. In terms of innate immunity, natural killer (NK) cell activity and phagocytosis increased in the HemoHIM group compared to the cisplatin control group. The HemoHIM group also showed a significantly higher expression of T...

Authors: Zhang JF, Liu J, Gong GH, Zhang B, Wei CX Abstract Mongolian medicine RuXian-I is composed of 30 Mongolian herbs, which is a traditional Mongolian recipe for clinical treatment of breast "Qi Su Bu Ri Le Du Sen" disease (hyperplasia of mammary glands, HMG). Based on the previous study, this dissertation further explores the therapeutic mechanism of RuXian-I on estrogen-induced HMG in rats. RuXian-I had no effect on the body weight and food intake of HMG rats and had no toxic effects on the five organs (heart, lung, spleen, and kidney). RuXian-I reduced the diameter and height of nipple, organ inde...

Abstract With the combination of ideologic beliefs and the will to survive, fraught patients and determined clinicians seek alternative therapies for treatment of terminal conditions, such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Unfortunately, the need for treatment has supported the growth of unapproved stem cell therapy over the years spanning across many countries. The reality, however, is that the science behind this therapy is lagging. While there have been promising results from phase I trials, there remain multiple reasons that "stem cells" are not ready for clinical application, starting from a gap in ...
