Conclusion This paper summarizes the current findings regarding the anti-colitis activity of plant-derived alkaloids and shows how these alkaloids exhibit significant and beneficial effects in alleviating colonic inflammation. These natural alkaloids are not only promising agents for IBD treatment but are also components for developing new wonder drugs. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms or toxicological evaluation of most plant-derived alkaloids still require much scientific research, and their actual efficacies for IBD patients have not been verified well in field research. Thus, further clinical trials to elu...

Authors: Du Y, Lin J, Shen J, Ding S, Ye M, Wang L, Wang Y, Wang X, Xia N, Zheng R, Chen H, Xu H Abstract BACKGROUND: This active, open observational study aimed to investigate adverse drug reactions (ADRs) associated with six commonly used antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) in southern Chinese outpatients with epilepsy from 2003 to 2015. METHODS: The Wenzhou Epilepsy Follow-Up Registry Database (WEFURD) was established by a single epilepsy center in China in January 2003 to record AED efficacy and the associated ADRs by registered outpatients diagnosed with epilepsy. We reviewed the data of outpatients who had only ta...

DiscussionWe detected silent inactivation in a single patient who had an asparaginase level of 0.01 seven days after the first dose of PEG and showed no signs of overt allergic reaction. This patient was switched to Erwinaze and an asparaginase level drawn 48 hours post Erwinaze was therapeutic at 0.719. Another patient developed a hypersensitivity reaction 12-hours after PEG and had a serum asparaginase level of 1.29 7-days post PEG. This suggests that not all anti-asparaginase antibodies are neutralizing since this patient continued to demonstrate therapeutic drug levels. The incidence of allergic reactions to PEG at our...

CONCLUSIONS: Pancreatitis, lymphoadenopathy and cholangitis were the commonest manifestations in Asians with IgG4-RD. All patients responded to glucocorticoid therapy by 3 months, two-thirds required maintenance therapy with glucocorticoids, and one-quarter developed relapse of disease. ConclusionsThe concordant findings using both approaches strengthen the notion that FH of cancer, PC or diabetes confers a higher PC risk. Smoking notably increases PC risk associated with FH of PC. Further evaluation of these associations should be undertaken to guide PC prevention strategies.

Discussion Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane receptor (CFTR). It is found in the epithelium of the bronchi, intestine, pancreatic duct and biliary tree. It regulates chloride, bicarbonate and water secretion. The heterozygous state helps prevent against secretory diarrhea, but the homozygous state causes thickened secretions in the hollow tubes of the lungs and digestive tract. There are multiple mutations (> 2000) which have been currently classified into classes depending on their protein production and activity. CF patients generally are l...

Immunoglobulin G4 –related disease (IgG4-RD) is an uncommon immune-mediated disorder with heterogeneous clinicopathologic features and variable disease manifestations.1 IgG4-RD is characterized by single-organ or multiorgan involvement, and tissue infiltration with IgG4 plasma cells and associated fibrosclerosis.2– 5 Autoimmune pancreatitis represents the prototype of IgG4-RD, yet involvement of almost all organs has been reported.1–7 Elevated IgG4 serum concentration is noted in the majority of patients with IgG4-RD and is generally related to the more severe disease phenotype.

Apollo Endosurgery's Orbera365 weight-loss balloon works the same way as the original Orbera device, except it is designed to stay in the patient's stomach for 12 months, twice as long as the previous version. Apollo Endosurgery said it has received CE Mark approval to sell its Orbera365 weight-loss system in Europe, doubling the amount of time the balloon stays inflated in the patient's stomach. The approval comes less than a month after FDA alerted doctors of patient deaths associated with obesity balloons made by Apollo and ReShape Medical. The news deflated Apollo's stock (NASDAQ: APEN), as shares sold o...
