Luminescence spectroscopic properties and emission decay dynamics have been studied upon UV-VUV excitation. Emission from Ce3+ ions located in two types of crystallographic sites has been identified in low temperature spectra. Ce3+ ions have been shown to prefer occupying Sr2+ sites rather than Lu3+ sites. The temperature-dependent decay curves of Ce3+ 5d→4f emission demonstrate an excellent luminescence thermal stability.Graphical abstract
