Histopathological findings of nucleus pulposus in lumbar brucellar spondylodiscitis

This study describes the isolation of a leech following the presentation of unusual vaginal bleeding. Vaginal bleeding in children due to a leech bite is very rare. This is the first report of severe bleeding in a virgin 14-year-old girl from Mashhad, Iran due to the presence of a leech in the vagina.

Lentjes, Albert Huisman, Ruben E.A. Musson, Erik M. van MaarseveenAbstractPatients with hemophilia A are currently diagnosed and monitored by measuring the activity of coagulation factor VIII (FVIII) in plasma mostly with the one-stage clotting assay (OSA). Although the OSA is routinely available in many clinical laboratories, it has in some circumstances relatively low sensitivity and specificity. Therefore, the FVIII activity as a biomarker does not ...

Conclusions: Decitabine-based chemotherapy may be a suitable therapeutic alternative for newly diagnosed AML patients who are unfit for intensive chemotherapy. An advanced age (≥ 60 years) and higher MRD (≥ 1.34%) were considered adverse prognostic factors. PMID: 31315553 [PubMed - in process]

We present the first documented case of candida colitis caused by Candida Glabrata in a 56-year-old man with a personal history of morbid obesity and bariatric surgery. The presenting symptoms were diarrhea, rectal bleeding and septic shock. Diagnosis was obtained by histological and microbiological study of the colonoscopy biopsies. Gastroenterologists should be aware of Candida as a cause of colonic infection. Fungal culture is the key to identify specific Candida species and lead to an appropriate antifungal therapy. Conclusions: The specific diagnosis rate of DCHR is low. Preoperative MRI and CT examination can make a definitive diagnosis and determine the extent of the lesions. DCHR is mostly restricted to the rectum, sigmoid colon, anal wall, and mesorectum. The best treatment for DCHR is complete lesion resection. It is safe and feasible to treat DCHR using transanal endoscopic surgery. Moreover, transanal endoscopic surgery might have a huge potential when used to treat other rectal diseases. Conclusion: Long-term use of low-dose aspirin causes varying degrees of gastric mucosal damages and gastrointestinal symptoms; the severity will increase within a certain range with the extension of medication duration. Teprenone mitigates the gastrointestinal symptoms caused by low-dose aspirin, lowering both the incidence and severity of gastric mucosal injuries and exerting a positive protective effect. This study assessed the effectiveness and safety of percutaneous mechanical thrombectomy and catheter-directed thrombolysis combined with stent placement in the management of iliac vein compression syndrome with acute iliofemoral deep venous thrombosis (DVT).MethodsFrom December 2014 to April 2016, there were 46 patients with DVT who underwent percutaneous mechanical thrombectomy and catheter-directed thrombolysis and stenting for acute proximal DVT with computed tomography-verified iliofemoral stenosis. The Venous Registry Index was used for evaluating the degree of patency after pharmacomechanical thrombolysis; the preva...

In this report, we describe two cases of large venous malformation in the lower lip that were successfully treated by percutaneous sclerotherapy followed by plastic surgery. In our two-case presentation, sclerotherapy was performed prior to plastic surgery to improve the efficiency and reduce excessive bleeding, which resulted in significantly improved appearance and physical function.

The objective of the current study was to demonstrate the 6-year clinical and radiological treatment outcomes of the technique performed by immediately loading of three implants (single straight in the mid-line and two tilted distal implants) for the management of total edentulous mandibles and introduce a simple decision matrix for selection of the most appropriate protocol in cases with insufficient length of the interforaminal area. Re-assessments were performed over a total observation period of 6 years after surgery via measurement of bone resorption around implants, bleeding on probing, plaque accumulation, peri...

Conclusion: The evidence suggests the risk of diverticular bleed among DOAC users is equivocal to those not taking DOACs, and the overall incidence of diverticular bleed in the DOAC population is low. As it stands, the risk of thrombotic events from not starting DOACs apparently outweighs the risk of diverticular bleed. PMID: 31316948 [PubMed - in process]
