Anticoagulation in addition to dual antiplatelet therapy has no impact on long-term follow-up after endovascular treatment of (sub)acute lower limb ischemia.

CONCLUSIONS: Our observational study demonstrates that the choice of an antithrombotic regime had no impact on the long-term follow-up after endovascular treatment of acute thrombembolic limb ischemia whereas prolonged anticoagulation was associated with a nominal increase in severe bleeding complications. Jared Huston, MD, a trauma surgeon at Northwell Health on New York's Long Island, spoke straight to the point about the current state of treatment for hemorrhagic shock. While traumatic wounds to extremities can be treated with a tourniquet, such wounds suffered internally are often fatal unless the patient can be transported quickly to an operating room. "There are no efficacious approaches to treating noncompressible hemorrhage," Huston said. "That's really the problem. If you're injured intra-abdominally or in the chest, and you're not brought somewhere where a trauma surgeon can operate on you and stop t...

Colorectal cancer (CRC) typically occurs when precancerous polyps in the colon or in the rectum transform into cancer. Signs of cancer may include rectal bleeding, blood in the stool, or a change in bowel movements. With routine screening, CRC can be prevented or detected early.

ConclusionsIn patients aged ≥ 85 years with moderate-severe dementia and AF, oral anticoagulation was significantly associated with a lower embolic risk and a higher bleeding risk, with no differences in total mortality.ResumenIntroducción y objetivosEl envejecimiento de la población se asocia con una prevalencia creciente de fibrilación auricular (FA) y demencia. Suspected or confirmed bleeding, 2. Systolic blood pressure

Semin Thromb Hemost DOI: 10.1055/s-0039-1701018Traumatic-induced coagulopathy (TIC) is often associated with significant bleeding, transfusion requirements, inflammation, morbidity, and mortality. This review considers TIC as a systems failure, not as a single-event manifestation of trauma. After briefly reviewing the meaning of TIC and the bewildering array of fibrinolysis phenotypes, we will discuss the role of platelets and fibrinogen in coagulopathy. Next, we will review the different TIC hypotheses and drill down to a single mechanistic domain comprising (1) thrombin's differential binding to thrombomodulin, (2) the e...
