Conclusion: The presentation of PPCRA has been sporadic in the majority of cases. Inflammatory and hereditary origins have been anecdotally cited. Our young patient showed concurrent presentation of inflammatory and hereditary origin of PPCRA. We suggest that a careful investigation of systemic inflammation should be done in children with suggestive extraocular symptoms in the setting of PPCRA. We report our experience in conservative management of patients with prenatal and neonatal diagnosis of severe bilateral ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO), focusing on the actual predictors of renal function impairment or spontaneous resolution. Between 1996 and 2006, 20 patients with bilateral severe hydronephrosis related to UPJO were included in the study. Indications for surgery were an increased hydronephrosis, decreased renal function, onset of symptoms. Conservatively treated patients were followed up for 3 months to 10 years with renal ultrasound, DTPA diuretic, urine culture. At first renal scan, 22 out of...

Authors: special issue: “Focus on pediatric nephrology”, Scuderi MG, Spampinato G, Milazzo G, Betta P, Fusco M, Arena S, Falsaperla M, Chimenz R, Di Benedetto V Abstract Pelviureteric junction obstruction (PUJO) due to intrinsic or extrinsic causes is a common problem in childhood. Extrinsic compression by a lower pole-crossing blood vessel can present symptomatically in older children. In these cases, laparoscopies Vascular Hitch can represent a valid alternative to pyeloplasty dismembered. We analyzed the data of 4 children affected by extrinsic PUJO treated at our institution with the laparoscopic Va...

Bone is richly innervated by nerve growth factor–responsive (NGF-responsive) tropomyosin receptor kinase A–expressing (TrKa-expressing) sensory nerve fibers, which are required for osteochondral progenitor expansion during mammalian skeletal development. Aside from pain sensation, little is known regarding the role of sensory innervation in bone repair. Here, we characterized the reinnervation of tissue following experimental ulnar stress fracture and assessed the impact of loss of TrkA signaling in this process. Sequential histological data obtained in reporter mice subjected to fracture demonstrated a marked ...

Previous central nervous systems Oncology Scan articles in this publication have discussed treatment and molecular characterization of low-,1 intermediate-,2 and high-grade3,4 gliomas, controversies in the management of brain metastases,5-8 and evolving approaches to atypical meningiomas.9 Although arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are nononcologic entities, optimal management of patients with this disease presents many of the same questions involved in the treatment of low-grade tumors: when, whom, or even if to treat.

We read with interest the Oncology Scan feature by Minniti et  al regarding the role of immunotherapy in treatment of melanoma brain metastases.1 Although we agree with the facts articulated by authors' review of the 3 articles, we strongly disagree with the premise that the efficacy of multiagent immunotherapy may obviate the need for stereotactic radiosurge ry (SRS) as an important component of optimal care. Although the 57% 6-month local control rate (with a 26% complete response rate) provided by multiagent immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) alone is impressive, these numbers still fall well short of the 87% to 91...

CONCLUSION: circRNAs in TMJ synovial tissue participate in the progression of TMJOA and may become a potential therapeutic target. The highly up-regulated has_circ_0000448 probably promotes TNF-α secretion of synovium through CeRNA mechanism in TMJOA. PMID: 31632516 [PubMed]

Moxibustion alleviates intervertebral disc degeneration via activation of the HIF-1α/VEGF pathway in a rat model. Am J Transl Res. 2019;11(9):6221-6231 Authors: Zhang B, Zhao Q, Li Y, Zhang J Abstract Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) induces serious back, neck and radicular pain. Recently, moxibustion has been suggested as an effective treatment for IDD. Thus, our study aims to investigate the molecular mechanism of moxibustion in IDD. A rat model of IDD was established by moxibustion treatment. Nucleus pulposus (NP) cells isolated from IDD rats or IDD rats treated with moxibustion were tra...
