CONCLUSION: The results suggest that the favorable region for orthodontic MI placement is in the similar anatomical region compared to non-cleft patients, but differs from one side in each group. In unilateral cleft palate patients, the highest bone level was found on the anterior palate side opposite to the cleft side, indicating the most effective region for MIs placement. This work describes the development and manufacture of a 3D silicone cleft lip and palate (CLP) model evaluated by surgical residents on its similarity to the biological model.Thirty unilateral CLP models were created and distributed to residents at two different institutions. Conclusions: Bicoronal synostosis is the most common subtype of Apert syndrome with the normalized cranial base angulation. Combined pansynostosis patients have flatter cranial base, whereas the combined unilateral coronal synostosis have a kyphotic cranial base. CONCLUSIONS:: All patients presented with improved facial symmetry after surgery and the improvements were visually recognizable. However, only 1 (9.1%) of the 11 patients reached a level of facial asymmetry as low as that seen in the control group.
