An in vitro study on the biocompatibility of fibroblasts in sterile and non-sterile low-cost and commercial meshes
ConclusionAgain, our studies show no significant differences in biocompatibility of fibroblasts between expensive and low-cost meshes. In addition, we detected fibroblast growth even in sterile meshes, independent of the mesh group. To our knowledge, the present study is the first of its kind in terms of qualitative equivalence of sterile and non-sterile in vitro mesh samples. We do not wish to create future patient studies with non-sterilized meshes saturated with antibiotics/antimycotics. However, perhaps we can prove in future studies that under semi-sterile conditions with certain LCMs, wound infection rates can be acceptable.
Conclusions: Using a novel approach, we provide details of the esophageal hiatus in patients with various kinds of hiatal hernia. Impaired LES relaxation in paraesophageal hernia may play a role in its pathophysiology and genesis of symptoms. PMID: 31677612 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Abstract Lumbar hernias are from weakened areas in the posterior lateral abdominal wall. Minimally invasive techniques are recommended for nonmidline abdominal wall hernias. We present a case of a 60-year-old male patient presented with bilateral inguinal swelling associated with urinary hesitancy and intermittency. He had undergone transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) repair for a left inguinal hernia 8 years ago. CT scan confirmed the presence of a bilateral hernia with the bladder herniating bilaterally. He underwent an elective bilateral open Lichtenstein tension-free mesh repair.
ConclusionAcute appendicitis should be suspected as a cause of mechanical intestinal obstruction in an elderly patient with no obvious diagnostic cause, and can be managed with simple appendectomy when an early intervention is made.

ConclusionThe introduction of a liquid material which solidifies after injection in a short time (hydrogel) using a needle is feasible. The combined CT-scan and US image guidance allows for the percutaneous placement of the needle in the required location. The introduced hydrogel remains in this space, corresponding to the inguinal region, without moving. The placed hydrogel compresses the posterior wall composed of the transversalis fascia, supporting the potential use of hydrogel for hernia defects.
ConclusionThe clinicians should consider this rare condition in the differential diagnosis of patients presenting with large paraumbilical hernias associated with classical symptoms of acute pancreatitis, particularly in the absence of typical risk factors for pancreatitis. An intravenous contrast-enhanced abdominal CT scan should be performed immediately in these patients. We recommend the patients and the surgeons to consider prompt surgical repair for paraumbilical hernias to avoid further complications and the higher incidence of morbidity and mortality associated with emergency surgeries.
ConclusionHigh index of clinical suspicion and early intervention saves the patient from extensive bowel resection and other serious complications.
