Cumulative clinical experience with MF59-adjuvanted trivalent seasonal influenza vaccine in young children and adults 65 years of age and older

Rates of complications and hospitalization due to seasonal influenza are higher among persons ≥65 years of age relative to younger individuals (Mullooly et al., 2007; Thompson et al., 2004; Zhou et al., 2012), and up to 90% of influenza-related deaths occur in this age group (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2010; Thompson et al., 2003; Viboud and Miller, 2008; Zamparo and Littl e, 2011). According to US data, older adults also account for two-thirds of the economic burden of influenza (Molinari et al., 2007).
