Authors: Huang J, Chen Z, Yuan J, Zhang C, Chen H, Wu W, Chen Z, Liu Y, Zheng M, Chen S, Wu S, Chen Y Abstract BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to investigate the association between body mass index (BMI) and brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) in hypertensive males. MATERIAL AND METHODS Altogether, 14 866 male hypertensive participants were included in the analysis. Participants were divided into 3 groups: low BMI group (BMI

This study aimed to examine the association between acute exacerbations of COPD and the lean-to-fat (LTF) ratio in patients with a normal or low BMI. MATERIAL AND METHODS Patients with COPD (n=68) underwent assessment of body composition, in whom 43 cases had a normal BMI (18.5 to 25 kg/m²) and 14 cases were underweight (

This study intends examination of relationships between burnout syndrome, depression, and Kernberg's concept of splitting. MATERIAL AND METHODS In this present study, we assessed 132 female health care professionals working with a population of diabetic patients utilizing Burnout Measure (BM) Splitting Index (SI), Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II), and additional psychometric instruments, the Toronto Alexithymia Scale and the Trauma Symptoms Checklist. RESULTS The study results indicated significant Spearman correlations between burnout syndrome as measured by BM and depression (BDI-II) (R=0.62, P

Authors: Ji Y, Cao Y, Song Y Abstract Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common liver cancer among different types of cancers. Cordyceps Militaris mushroom species traditionally used as an alternative medicine in china for centuries. Gold nanoparticles plays vital role in the development of the anticancer drugs. In our research, we investigated the gold nanoparticles with C. Militaris on the hepatocellular carcinoma HepG2 cells. The synthesized gold nanoparticles stability and integrity was studied at different time intervals. The gold nanoparticles potentially halt the growth of the HepG2 cells at the IC50 conce...

This study is aimed to investigate the effects of Camellia sinensis (CS), Hypericum perforatum (HP) and Urtica dioica (UD) in kidney and liver injury induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) in rats. Highly toxic CCl4 which is used as a solvent in industry comprises experimental toxicity in rats and is widely used in hepatotoxicity and other tissue injury models. The purpose of this investigation is to monitor blood and various tissues by biochemical and histopathological analysis for preventive effects of CS, HP and UD on oxidative stress induced by administration of CCl4 and to enlighten the probable mechanism. Fifty eight...

In this study, we observed the effect of HWJND on esophageal morphology in a rat model of ovalbumin (OVA)-induced visceral hypersensitivity followed by acid exposure. Esophageal morphology was assessed by measuring the extent of dilated intercellular spaces (DIS), desmosome disruption, and mitochondrial fragmentation. HWJND in low, moderate, and high doses relieved DIS and desmosome disruption in esophageal epithelium compared with model group (P<0.05 for all doses). In addition, HWJND in high dose protected mitochondria from fragmentation (P<0.05). Other findings suggest that DIS and mitochondrial fragmentation are ...

This study was carried out in Iran during two growing seasons 2016-2017. Sesame is one of the earliest oilseed plants, high oil percentage and high content of unsaturated fatty acids, especially oleic acid and linoleic acid, have led to an increase in the nutritional quality of sesame oil. Accordingly, a two-year experiment was conducted as factorial based on randomized complete block design with three replications. The evaluated factors included four levels of urea as nitrogen fertilizer (0, 33, 66 and 100% of plant requirement), three kinds of organic fertilizer (manure, vermicompost and control) and four kinds of biofer...

Authors: Tu W, Qian S Abstract Epilepsy is a common chronic disease of the central nervous system that can last for years or even decades, causing serious adverse effects on the body, mind, and psychology of patients. Traditional antiepileptic drugs can effectively control seizures, but because of large individual differences, serious adverse reactions, narrow therapeutic window and other shortcomings, more effective, new treatment drugs are looked for. Streptocaulon griffithii is a plant of Asclepiadaceae. 16-O-acetyldigitoxigenin (ACE) is a strong cardiac glycoside isolated from methanol extract of Streptocaulon ...
