Emerging Product Liability Concerns for Medical 3D Printing

Conclusions Advancements in additive manufacturing have the healthcare industry understandably excited about future possibilities. But as innovation continues to progress, industry standards, federal regulations, and case law lag behind, creating some uncertainties regarding liability. We will continue to keep a close eye on FDA guidance and emerging ASTM standards as they relate to additive manufacturing, as such developments will likely serve as a barometer for the treatment of 3D-printed devices in products liability law.
