The significance of heat shock protein 70 kDa in the development of acute focal myocardial and cerebral ischemia.

The significance of heat shock protein 70 kDa in the development of acute focal myocardial and cerebral ischemia. Curr Pharm Des. 2019 Mar 29;: Authors: Konstantinova EV, Chipigina NS, Shurdumova MH, Kovalenko EI, Sapozhnikov AM Abstract In acute focal ischemia of the heart and brain similar processes are developing despite the obvious differences in the structure, function, and blood supply of these organs. This review presents a contemporary view of involvement of heat shock proteins (HSPs) in the process of ischemic injury of the heart and brain and summarizes new clinical studies related to the role of HSP70 in patients with atherosclerosis. The main types of these proteins, their receptors, mechanisms of their functioning and the sources of circulating HSP70 are described. We also discuss the possible reasons of similarity of the effect of HSPs on ischemic lesions in different vascular beds and cardioprotective and neuroprotective properties of HSP70 mediated by chaperone, anti-apoptotic and immunomodulatory activities of these proteins. The reviewed data allow considering HSP70 as a "target" for the development of new effective approaches to the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
