Egg freezing and late motherhood

Egg freezing was initially considered as an option to preserve fertility when this was expected to be impaired, due to chemotherapy or other cancer treatments, in the absence of a male partner. Oncofertility was the first scientific field that benefited from its introduction in reproductive medicine [1]. Ovarian cryopreservation is another method of fertility preservation, mainly used before applying gonadotoxic treatments in girls or young women. However, it is still considered an experimental procedure and its application is limited.
