Target and Whirl Signs: Volvulus of Intussuscepted Colon in an  Infant

An 8-month-old boy presented with a 6-day history of intermittent vomiting and watery diarrhea. Physical examination showed moderate dehydration and abdominal distension without palpable masses. He  was positive for fecal adenovirus antigens. He remained lethargic despite hydration with intravenous fluids. Abdominal contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed the target sign (bowel-within-bowel configuration) (Figure 1A, arrow) and the whirl sign (bowel apparently swirls with its mesenter y) (Figure 1A, arrowhead).
