CNIO researchers identify a new gene involved in the development of a rare endocrine tumour

(Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Oncol ó gicas (CNIO)) Paragangliomas and phaeochromocytomas are very rare neuroendocrine tumours and also the most hereditary form of all types of cancer. Researchers have for the first time linked mutations in the DLST gene with the development of such tumors. In addition to the importance of this finding for the future therapies, the discovery can broaden the number of families that may benefit from genetic counselling for prevention, detection and monitoring of these cancers.
