Authors: Teng M, Zhou S, Cai C, Lupien M, He HH Abstract Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed non-cutaneous cancers in North American men. While androgen deprivation has remained as the cornerstone of prostate cancer treatment, resistance ensues leading to lethal disease. Forkhead box A1 (FOXA1) encodes a pioneer factor that induces open chromatin conformation to allow the binding of other transcription factors. Through direct interactions with the Androgen Receptor (AR), FOXA1 helps to shape AR signaling that drives the growth and survival of normal prostate and prostate cancer cells. FOXA1 also possesse...

Hi all, I've been having a lot of anxiety regarding a critical decision I made several years prior. When I was a senior in high school, I received admission to a school that now ranks among the Top 3 public universities in the United States. Although I did receive a small scholarship (several thousand), it would have put me into significant debt. I instead opted for a much smaller school (which ranks between 150-200) that was generous enough to endow me with a full-tuition merit... Dealing with Anxiety as a Pre-Med

Authors: Jung SW, Kim YJ, Han SB, Lee KY, Kang JH Abstract OBJECTIVES: Since the 2000s, two lineages of the influenza B virus (influenza B/Victoria and influenza B/Yamagata) have been co-circulating. Information on the age distribution of patients infected by each influenza B virus lineage may be helpful for establishing differentiated influenza prevention and control strategies for each age group. METHODS: Age distributions were compared between patients infected by influenza A and B viruses and between those infected by the influenza B virus when B/Victoria and B/Yamagata lineages circulated dominantly. R...

In this study, we addressed the issue of a vitamin D modulatory effect on the immune response to seasonal influenza vaccination in elderly persons. The study comprised 96 participants aged 60-75 during the 2016/17 epidemic season. After the determination of the baseline content of VIT D and anti-hemagglutinin antibodies (H1, H3, and HB), participants were vaccinated with a trivalent vaccine. The content of the anti-hemagglutinin antibodies was rechecked 4-5 weeks afterward, showing inappreciable alterations. The negative findings of this study make the influence of serum VIT D content on the immunogenicity of influenz...
