CONCLUSION: Our findings demonstrate those enrolled in the OCM and those with hematologic malignancies have a higher risk of receiving anticancer therapy in the last 14 days of life. These observations highlight the need for better identifying the needs of high-risk patients and providing good quality care throughout the disease trajectory to better align end-of-life care with patients' wishes. ConclusionPrimary adenocarcinoma of the jaw is extremely rare, except for 2–3% central mucoepidermoid carcinomas. The possibility of a metastatic tumor should be a consideration when encountering unusual histomorphology of an adenocarcinoma in the jaw bone.

In conclusion, it was possible to verify that Dentistry in the hospital environment is of paramount importance, and should be based on empathy and communication, seeking to create the necessary bonds for the development of an effective and individualized treatment plan, discussion of cases in an integrated way and demonstrating the importance of higher education institutions in the training of future professionals. This paper aims to be contributory in order to increase the discussion about palliative care in Dentistry, besides providing subsidies to future studies that will deepen in this essential and still unexplored su...

In this study, 1664 metastatic gastric cancer patients at our institution between 2000 and 2015 were retrospectively analyzed. The characteristics and clinical outcomes of the included patients were analyzed. Results: Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves showed that the regrouping NRS 2002 scale (≤ 3 vs.> 3) provided a similar risk stratification predicting 2-year overall survival (OS) (area under the curves [AUCs]: 0.563 vs. 0.564, P> 0.05) but a better stratification predicting the risk of complications of palliative surgery (AUCs: 0.563 vs. 0.522, P = 0.050) than the original NRS 2002 scale ( 3 tended ...

This study was aimed to evaluate survival benefit of palliative surgeries to gastric and/or metastatic tumors in mGC patients based on U.S population.Materials and Methods: A total of 8345 gastric cancer patients diagnosed with synchronous distal metastasis between 2004 to 2013 from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program (SEER) database were divided into four groups according to surgery strategies: surgeries to both primary and metastatic tumors (SPM), gastrectomy only (GO), metastasectomy only (MO) and no surgery performed (NS). Their clinicopathological characteristics and overall survival (OS) were anal...

The objective of this study was to evaluate the survival benefit of RT in mRC.Methods: A retrospective population-based cohort study was performed using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program (SEER) database. Patient baseline demographic characteristics between the RT and no-RT groups were compared using Pearson chi-square tests. The outcome of interest was cause-specific survival (CSS). Propensity score (PS) matching and Cox proportional hazards regression analyses were performed to evaluate the prognostic power of variables on CSS.Results: A total of 8851 patients with mRC were identified in the SEER dat...

This study aimed to explore the diagnostic and prognostic value of digital rectal examination (DRE) in GC.Methods: 247 GC patients with PM confirmed by operation were included. The diagnostic yield of DRE compared with computed tomography (CT) was calculated. In another group of 1330 cases receiving radical gastrectomy, 38 cases with DRE (+) postoperatively were analyzed to identify risk factors. A nomogram was constructed to predict postoperative DRE (+).Results: The specificity, positive predictive value and positive likelihood ratio of DRE in diagnosis of PM was 99.8%, 91.2% and 58.4, higher than CT (97.6%, 64.9% and 10...
