As has recently been highlighted in the Journal of Hepatology and elsewhere, patients with liver diseases such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) or cirrhosis, as well as liver transplant recipients, carry a high risk of morbidity and mortality due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) [1-3]. Many of these patients have additional comorbidities including obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease, which are emerging as key predictors of COVID-19 severity [4, 5].
