In this study, various nonionic surfactants (NS) with different ethylene oxide (EO) numbers and tail lengths and its binary blends with anionic surfactants (AS) were used as emulsifiers for naphthenic oil to form the microemulsion metalworking fluids (MWFs), and the effects of them on the stability of the emulsion system were investigated by formulation triangle method. The results indicated that binary complex surfactants of NS and AS as emulsifiers exhibited better emulsifying effect than that of single NS. NS with different EO numbers and tail lengths presented various emulsifying effects. NS (EO = 10) exh...

Herein, a facile metal-free strategy was reported for the one-pot preparation of cyclic carbonates and α-hydroxy ketones from vicinal diols, propargylic alcohols and CO2. Wide scope of vicinal diols and propargylic alcohols was demonstrated to be efficient under the DBU-catalyzed conditions. A plausible mechanism was proposed, which included detailed main and...

This study conducted the first cytotoxicity effect exploration of p,p’-DDT on the dolphin skin fibroblasts (ScSFs) to enhance the understanding of the cellular and molecular regulation impacts. ScSF cells were exposed to p,p’-DDT (28˜168 μM) for 24, 48 and 72 h. The exposure remarkably decreased viability of ScSF cells, possibly due to the synergetic effects of cell cycle arrest and apoptosis via DNA damage and mitochondria dysfunction. The DNA damage and mitochondria dysfunction were likely triggered by an increase of cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS), alteration in mitochondrial me...

This study aims to examine the passengers’ awareness and perceptions of the emergency way-finding tools and procedure in the airport. In addition, the study also investigates the relationship of passengers’ perceptions of feeling safe at the airport with the awareness of way-finding tools and procedure.A survey of 500 respondents in Melbourne Airport in Australia and 450 respondents in Qingdao International Airport in China showed that the passengers’ awareness of emergency way-finding tools and procedure varied in the two airports. While most of the passengers at Melbourne Airport were unfamiliar with em...
