Do We Need a Randomized Controlled Trial on This Issue? Complete Resolution of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease After Bariatric Surgery
We read the article by Lee et al1 with interest. We would like to congratulate the authors for their contribution. They provide a strong scientific basis for the role of bariatric surgery in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Although most of the data included in the meta-analysis came from prospective obs ervational studies, it is clear that bariatric surgery reverses NAFLD. However, this effect is not consistent, as some patients progress after surgery, and a few develop de novo NAFLD.
