(203) Effects of Patient and Provider Race and Socioeconomic Status on Pain Treatment Decisions and Decision-Making Awareness
Decision-making in chronic pain care requires synthesizing complex information from many sources. Treatment guidelines have been described as “unclear and confusing,” which can lead to inconsistent pain care, non-clinically relevant information influencing decisions, and perpetuation of racial and socioeconomic disparities. Increased understanding of the factors influencing providers’ treatment decisions and the extent to which prov iders are aware of their decision-making process may help to reduce disparities and improve care.
