Advancing the science of uterine transplantation: minimizing living donor risk on a path to surgical innovation
Uterine transplant is by nature a surgically innovative procedure, therefore it is not surprising that innovations within this field are progressing rapidly and in novel directions. Once regarded as an incurable diagnosis, studies show that absolute uterine factor infertility is now considered amenable to surgical correction via transplantation. From the initial series of live births in Sweden (1) to more recently reported deliveries in the United States, Brazil, China, and India, the accumulation of successful pregnancies is the strongest evidence of the procedure's potential application as a clinical tool for women with uterine factor infertility.
