Maternal Mortality in the United States: Future Research Directions (Day 2)

Online viewers may submit questions regarding the meeting by e-mailing asimpson@palladianpartners.com with the subject line “ Maternal Mortality Meeting Question ” The workshop ’ s purpose is to identify research questions, gaps, and opportunities that could expand knowledge regarding maternal mortality data, trends, and causes. The workshop presentations and discussions will inform the development of a research agenda for NICHD that could lead to improved measurement and reduction of maternal mortality in the United States. The panel discussions will focus on three areas: 1. An in-depth examination of definitions, data measurement and quality, trends of maternal mortality, and research needs, gaps and opportunities to enable better measurement and reporting2. A discussion of clinical obstetrical contributors to maternal mortality in the context of health system factors such as access, insurance/financing, quality of health care, and variations in medical practice; and identification of research gaps, needs, and strategies3. An overview of root causes of maternal mortality disparities such as medical mistrust, neighborhood environments, and discussion of cultural frameworks that provide an inclusive approach for improving maternal health outcomes for all women.Air date: 5/3/2019 8:00:00 AM
