Brain research reveals a circuit for cocaine relapse

(Medical University of South Carolina) Researchers at the Medical University of South Carolina have identified which neurons are responsible for cocaine-seeking behaviors in rodents and where these neurons exert their effects within the brain. Their findings were published in March 13, 2019 issue of The Journal of Neuroscience. This work opens a new line of addiction research that could lead to novel therapeutic approaches for preventing relapse.
