Misclassification of study population

The recent publication on the metabolic syndrome in the Mexican Tarahumara (aka Rar ámuri) population by Moreno-Ulloa and co-workers [1] is a welcome contribution to the sparse literature on cardio-metabolic health in this population primarily known for their running prowess [2], and use of hallucinogenic plants [3] in traditional society. Along with the vast majority of Native Am erican populations, the Tarahumara people are undergoing an epidemiological transition as indicated by the report of Moreno-Ulloa et al.
