Conclusion: A consensus nomenclature system has been adopted by a large group of international uveitis experts for OTB. The working group recommends the use of standardized nomenclature to prevent ambiguity in communication and to achieve the goal of spreading awareness of this blinding uveitis entity. ConclusionLow baseline compliance with OHS/IPC measures and lack of improvement over three years reflect the difficulties of quality improvement in these domains. Low inter-rater reliability of the audit instrument undermines the audit process. Evidence based investment of effort is required if repeat auditing is to contribute to occupational risk reduction for health workers.

Authors: Low EXS, Zheng Q, Chan E, Lim SG Abstract Drug induced liver injury (DILI) may be different in the East compared to the West due to differing disease prevalence, prescribing patterns and pharmacogenetic profiles. To review existing literature on causative agents of DILI in the East compared to the West, a comprehensive literature search was performed on electronic databases: MEDLINE/PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library and China National Knowledge Infrastructure without language restrictions. Studies which involve patients having DILI and reported the frequency of causative agents were included. A random effec...

Authors: Torres M, Herrera MT, Fabián-San-Miguel G, Gonzalez Y Abstract Diabetes mellitus, a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia and poor glucose control, is a risk factor for Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) infection and the development of active tuberculosis. To evaluate whether M. tuberculosis infection susceptibility is associated with an intrinsic factor in monocytes from type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients or it is associated with hyperglycemia per se, we analyzed TLR-2 and TLR-4 expression by flow cytometry and the cytokines IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, and TNF-α by cytome...

Publication date: Available online 10 December 2019Source: Progress in Biophysics and Molecular BiologyAuthor(s): Ambuj Kumar Kushwaha, Shashi BhushanAbstractProtein synthesis in all the living cells is mediated by a large protein-RNA complex called the ribosome. These macromolecular complexes can range from 2.5 (prokaryotes) to 4.2 MDa(eukaryotes) in size and undergo various conformational transitions during protein synthesis to translate the genetic code into the nascent polypeptide chains. Recent advances in cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and image processing methods have provided numerous detailed structures of rib...

We report a middle aged man who was admitted with severe necrotising fasciitis following a motor vehicle accident (MVA). Histopathology of the excised tissue suggested mucormycosis while a bone tissue culture revealed fully sensitive Mycobacterium tuberculosis. He received intravenous liposomal amphotericin B combined with multiple surgical debridements and ended with right shoulder disarticulation. In addition he completed a nine months course of anti-tuberculosis treatment. He remained stable one year following his admission. We believe that trauma contributed to both conditions by direct inoculation of fungal spores and ...

CONCLUSIONS: In this large, international cohort of people living with HIV-associated TB in LMIC who received intensive phase DOT, DOT during the continuation phase of anti-TB therapy was not associated with a decreased odds of unfavourable TB treatment outcomes compared to SAT. Randomized trials evaluating the effect of continuation-phase DOT on TB outcomes among PLHIV are needed. PMID: 31814312 [PubMed - in process]
