Improvements in albuminuria and chronic kidney disease progression with the appetite suppressant lorcaserin

Obesity is an established risk factor for chronic kidney disease (CKD) and has been associated with both impaired kidney function and albuminuria, reflecting a broad spectrum of underlying pathology (1). Proposed mechanisms include hemodynamic effects, with increased glomerular pressure leading to hyperfiltration and albuminuria with subsequent declines in kidney function, as well as possible adverse affects of adipokines on podocyte health (2).
