Primum Non Nocere

The responsibility as physicians to heal without imposing harm is particularly relevant to the field of anesthesiology. Anesthesia is a necessary adjunct to most surgical procedures but should not in itself pose more than necessary risk to patient safety. Potential benefits should outweigh potential risks for any medications administered or procedures performed.
