Opioid Overdose Deaths Quadruple, Centered in 8 States

This study also found that the highest rates at present are in eight Eastern states: Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, and Ohio. Additionally, it found a 26% increase in opioid overdose deaths among African Americans between 2016 and 2017, which is the largest increase among any racial group.
