03:00 PM Abstract No. 393 A phase I/II study of direct injection of Bromelain and Acetylcysteine in patients with inoperable mucinous peritoneal tumours

Many patients with mucinous peritoneal tumours achieve long-term recurrence free and overall survival from cytoreductive surgery and intraperitoneal chemotherapy, however recurrence is frequently seen. Repeat surgical interventions have a negative impact on quality of life, risks may outweigh any potential benefits and repeated admissions have a considerable impact on healthcare systems. The deconditioned patient is eventually deemed inoperable with no treatment option for their disease. In an attempt to modify these outcomes, we discovered remarkable synergy in extensive preclinical studies between Bromelain (Br) and Acetylcysteine (NAC).
