The objectives of this study are to determine the level of therapeutic control of anticoagulation with vitamin K antagonists (VKA) and its possible involvement in major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and to evaluate differences between the group on VKA with respect to the group on DOACs. Patients and methods: Prospective cohort study that included consecutive patients diagnosed with NVAF in Cardiology Consultations with a clinical follow-up of 18 months. Demographic, clinical and analytical differences between groups were analyzed, including the level of therapeutic control of anticoagulation on the VKA group an...

, Jacobo-García K, Cossio-Aranda J Abstract Heart failure (HF) is a syndrome characterized basically by a circulatory deficit to cover the metabolic and energetic demands of the body. This condition has a broad spectrum in its clinical presentation, affects the quality of life significantly, impacts the family/social environment, and generates a great demand for health services. The purpose of this research is to report the situational diagnose of patients with HF in Mexico. We evaluated 292 patients, 70.2% were men. Average age was 56.7 ± 14.3 years. Ischemic heart disease is the main etiology (98 p...

ez Á, Baranda-Tovar FM Abstract Atrial fibrillation is the most frequent arrhythmia in the postoperative period of cardiac surgery. It is associated with heart failure, renal insufficiency, systemic embolism and increase in days of in-hospital and mortality. Atrial fibrillation in the postoperative period of cardiac surgery (FAPCC) usually appears in the first 48 h after surgery. The main mechanisms involved in the appearance and maintenance of FAPCC are the increase in sympathetic tone and the inflammatory response. The associated risk factors are advanced age, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chroni...

ConclusionMaximum reduction in FEV1 had the lowest variability. There was little difference between repetitions of the same methodology, as indicated by overlapping confidence intervals. There was a trend towards faster recovery following bolus challenge than with the incremental challenge. The results of this trial could be of value when designing future clinical trials using the methacholine challenge methodology.

ConclusionUreteral neuroendocrine tumors are extremely rare. Neuroendocrine markers (CD56, CgA, Syn) and epithelial markers (CKpan, CK7) are usually helpful. Grimelius special staining and electron microscopy observation can help to make a final diagnosis. Radical surgery together with postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy can improve the survival of patients. Vimentin may play a role in predicting the prognosis.

Authors: Kim JW, Huh U, Song S, Sung SM, Hong JM, Cho A Abstract Background: The surgical strategies for carotid endarterectomy (CEA) vary in terms of the anesthesia method, neurological monitoring, shunt usage, and closure technique, and no gold-standard procedure has been established yet. We aimed to analyze the feasibility and benefits of CEA under regional anesthesia (RA) and CEA under general anesthesia (GA). Methods: Between June 2012 and December 2017, 65 patients who had undergone CEA were enrolled, and their medical records were prospectively collected and retrospectively reviewed. A total of 35 patien...
