Publication date: Available online 18 February 2019Source: Materials LettersAuthor(s): Jatinder Kumar Ratan, Anil SainiAbstractThe present study involves the use of activated dolomite to enhance the photoactivity of self-cleaning cement containing microsized-TiO2. Two kinds of self-cleaning cement samples with different composition of clinker (white cement), activated dolomite and microsized-TiO2 were prepared in-house. The prepared cement samples and ingredients were characterized by XRD (X-ray diffraction) patterns, SEM (scanning electron microscopy), BET (Brunauer–Emmett–Teller) analysis and EDS (energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy). Photocatalytic activity test was performed to evaluate the self-cleaning abilities of the prepared cement samples. The photocatalytic activity test was also repeated for three times to confirm the reusability of the cement samples for commercial and field applications.
