Assessing the content and comprehensiveness of provincial and territorial indoor tanning legislation in Canada.

CONCLUSION: All provinces and one territory have made progress in regulating the indoor tanning industry, particularly by prohibiting youth and using warning labels to communicate risk. Legislative gaps should be addressed in order to better protect Canadians from this avoidable skin cancer risk. PMID: 30767854 [PubMed - in process]

ConclusionsNew foci of increased18F-fluorodeoxyglucose avidity are commonly seen in the caudate and left hepatic lobes of the liver during neoadjuvant chemoradiation for distal esophageal cancer, and these findings generally reflect radiation-induced liver disease rather than metastatic disease. Awareness of the pitfalls of a high18F-fluorodeoxyglucose uptake in radiation-induced liver injury is crucial in order to avoid misinterpretation and overstaging. Except for the location of18F-fluorodeoxyglucose uptake, the shape of the lesion, and an maximum standardized uptake value (>  10/h), a convincing liver magneti...

Conclusions: Thus, we are presenting the first translational study of solid tumors focusing on the metabolic patterns of primary and secondary lymphoid organs induced by the systemic immune response after CIT. We demonstrate that the widely available 18F-FDG-PET modality is an applicable translational tool that has high potential to stratify patients at an early time point.

In conclusion, radiomics imaging features extracted from pre-treatment PET/CT may provide complimentary information to the current AJCC staging scheme for survival prognostication and risk-stratification of HPV-associated OPSCC.

The detection of cancer micrometastasis for early diagnosis and treatment poses a great challenge for conventional imaging techniques. The aim of our study was to evaluate the performance of photoacoustic imaging (PAI) in detecting hepatic micrometastases from melanoma at a very early stage and in aiding tumor resection by intraoperative guidance. Methods: In vivo studies were performed by following protocols approved by the Ethical Committee for Animal Research at Xiamen University. First, a mouse model of B16 melanoma metastatic to the liver (n = 10) was established to study the development of micrometastases in vivo. Ne...

A 65-year-old man with a history of preventricular contractions treated with bisoprolol, a glomerular filtration rate of 64 to 78  mL/min/1.73 m2, a body mass index of 26.5, no significant tobacco history, and Zubrod performance status of 0 presented to his general practitioner with a sore throat. He underwent an esophagoscopy to evaluate for esophagitis and was found to have a large mass in the tongue base, obliterating the epiglottis. A biopsy showed p16+ squamous cell carcinoma. Imaging, including diagnostic computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and positron emission tomography/computed tomogra...

In this case report, we emphasize that WES should play an important role in determining the origin of MPLC clones, and also make some explorations for the further discovery of new potential driver genes and therapeutic targets. Multiple primary lung cancers (MPLCs) refers to two or more primary malignant tumors that occur simultaneously or successively in the lung of the same patient. Distinguishing MPLCs from intrapulmonary metastases is important for treatment strategy and prognosis. MPLCs have been considered as having different origins and clonal evolutionary processes. Whole genome sequencing (WGS) and whole exome seq...

CONCLUSION: SUVmax of FDG PET correlated weakly with expression of HIF-1α both in overall sample and tumor subgroups. Therefore, FDG PET cannot be used for prediction of hypoxia in clinical practice. PMID: 32551804 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

rig Peter Sinn Moritz von Winterfeld Claus Peter Heussel Felix J. F. Herth Frederick Klauschen Albrecht Stenzinger Katharina Kriegsmann Reliable entity subtyping is paramount for therapy stratification in lung cancer. Morphological evaluation remains the basis for entity subtyping and directs the application of additional methods such as immunohistochemistry (IHC). The decision of whether to perform IHC for subtyping is subjective, and access to IHC is not available worldwide. Thus, the application of additional methods to support morphological entity subtyping is desirable. Therefore, the ability of conv...

7:39 a.m. That’s the time that your smartphone’s sonar deems as optimal for you to wake up today. With its gentle vibration from your bedside table, you pick it up to turn off the smart alarm. As you do so, your phone asks for your permission to use the built-in sensors and camera to run your routine morning scan. It analyzes your voice; evaluates your stress level based on a facial scan; checks your vital signs; and notifies you to take a picture of that mole on your forearm in order to detect any anomalies.  Thereafter, it outputs a comprehensible report with recommendations which you can send over to...

Abstract Halo naevi are considered benign. They occur in children and adolescents. Eruptive multiple halo naevi are infrequently seen in adults. The first patient in this case series had previously had melanoma. Positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) showed a papillary thyroid carcinoma. Subsequent adult patients underwent an examination programme similar to melanoma patients with unknown primary, including PET scanning. Sixteen patients were followed over a 6-year period. In total there were 2 papillary thyroid cancers, 1 neuroendocrine lung tumour, 1 patient had had lung metastases from a thin...
