HPV Might Be Behind Vocal Cord Cancers in Young

Vocal cord, or glottic cancer, has been associated strongly with smoking and almost entirely seen in patients over 40 years, but today nonsmokers make up nearly half of glottic cancer patients, and it is common for them to be diagnosed under the age of

Burton, Estela BevilacquaAbstractEndoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress occurs when the protein folding machinery in the cell is unable to cope with newly synthesized proteins, which results in an accumulation of misfolded proteins in the ER lumen. In response, the cell activates a cellular signaling pathway known as the Unfolded Protein Response (UPR), aiming to restore cellular homeostasis. Activation and exacerbation of the UPR have been describe...

Aminophylline (Am) is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor and is currently used as a bronchodilator. Although there are several reports of haemolytic and proteolytic interaction of photoilluminated riboflavin with aminophylline, the cytotoxicity of this system against malignant tissue is not well defined and fully unravelled. Here, we are evaluatin...

In this study, CaCo2 colorectal adenocarcinoma cells were initially epigenetically reprogrammed and transformed into CD4+ cells with nano-sized complexes of amphiphilic poly-(N-vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) with miRNA-152 and piRNA-30074. The transformation of cells was confirmed by morphological and genetic changes in the dynamic of reprogramming. CD4+ lymphocytes marker was detected using immunofluorescence. Amphiphilic poly-(N-vinylpyrrolidone)/small non-coding RNAs complexes were investigated for transfection efficiency and duration of transfection of CaCo2 colorectal adenocarcinoma cells using fluorescence.Graphical abstract

This study explored factors influencing cervical health behaviors of these populations, using a 2-dimensional model (ie, affect and cognition) of attitude structure approach. Semistructured interviews were conducted with 33 participants. A semantic content analysis was used to identify major codes and themes across the transcripts. Multiple aspects of both negative and positive affect and cognition, which led to 3 different cervical health behaviors (avoidance, ambivalence, and acceptance), emerged from the interviews. The clinical implications of these findings are discussed.

Conclusion: Our results demonstrate that IL-10-1082, IL-10-819, and IL-10-592 variants, and haplotypes GC and GT constitute biomarkers for early detection of HNC, especially NPC subtype. IL-10 -819T/C and TA haplotype may be used as biomarkers for early detection of LC. PMID: 30762321 [PubMed - in process]

Conclusion: Ga-68 PSMA PET/CT has higher sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy compared to bone scan in terms of bone metastasis detection in prostate cancer patients. Therefore, it might be the modality of choice for patients with suspicion for metastatic disease, despite negative bone scan and conventional imaging results PMID: 30761859 [PubMed - in process]

Conclusions: Strongyloidiasis can be a lifelong chronic infection if not treated. In patients who are going to receive immunosuppressive therapy, it should be tested before treatment, as it can become a disseminated and life-threatening infectious disease. PMID: 30761833 [PubMed - in process]

CONCLUSIONS: Among men with a baseline prostate biopsy negative for P.C.a who were later found to have P.C.a and underwent R.P., baseline P.A. is independently associated with lower risk of W.H.O./I.S.U.P. grade group ≥2 P.C.a on surgical pathology. P.A. may be used to identify subjects at lower risk for W.H.O./I.S.U.P. ≥ 2 P.C.a and select optimal candidates for active surveillance. PMID: 30762450 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conclusion: Tumor tissue concentration-time curves of CPT-11 and SN-38 can be determined via PBPK modeling. Rate constants of enzymes and transporters can be shown for healthy and tumor bearing individuals. The results will throw light on the effective concentration of active compound at its target tissue at the clinically applied IV dose. PMID: 30760193 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
