Endothelial Cell-Derived Extracellular Vesicles Mitigate Radiation- Induced Hematopoietic Injury

Ionizing radiation causes morbidity and mortality in part due to injury to the hematopoietic system. We demonstrate that either syngeneic or allogeneic extracellular vesicles, which are generated from cultured primary marrow endothelial cells, can accelerate hematopoietic regeneration and prolong survival following radiation. These data indicate that endothelial cell-derived extracellular vesicles may be utilized clinically following either therapeutic or accidental radiation exposures.
