App Seeks to Ease Orthopedic Surgery Planning

A new solution for orthopedic surgery planning is now available through Siemens Healthineers Digital Ecosystem, an online platform that gives healthcare providers access to applications that can help “digitalize” healthcare. “Siemens Healthineers has created an OpenApp Store to share a new way to organize and discover apps from Siemens Healthineers and other vendors – directly on the syngo.via. The store enables [users] to browse, download, and test apps as well as request quotations. mediCAD Hectec with its software solution is one of the first partners that has joined this store,” Stephanie Maier, marketing, mediCAD Hectec GmbH, told MD+DI. mediCAD Classic is an orthopedic planning software solution that details, calculates, and documents the most effective alternatives before surgery. mediCAD provides “algorithms that automatically detect landmarks which help to determine a patient’s situation,” said Maier. “It makes planning way faster than needing to draw all landmarks manually. Many measurements are displayed and help the surgeon to decide how the patient can be treated.” The software combines patient images and digital implant templates from 130 manufacturers for preoperative planning.
