This study defines a new clinically relevant concept of T-cell senescence-mediated inflammatory responses in the pathophysiology of abnormal glucose homeostasis. We also found that T-cell senescence is associated with systemic inflammation and alters hepatic glucose homeostasis. In this study, we investigated the effect of trehalose on the development of NASH in the Tsumura Suzuki Obese Diabetes (TSOD) mouse, a metabolic syndrome model characterized by obesity, type 2 diabetes, and NASH. We found that trehalose intake markedly inhibited histopathological features of NASH, particularly hepatic steatosis and liver cell injury, in TSOD mice. Trehalose intake attenuated increase in mesenteric adipose tissue weight, impaired glucose tolerance, and iron deposition in the duodenum, suggesting that trehalose prevents insulin resistance and iron absorption in TSOD mice. ConclusionOur study suggests a VDR-mediated metabolic cross-talk between gut and adipose tissue, which significantly contributes to systemic lipid homeostasis. These results have important implications for use of the intestinal VDR as a therapeutic target for obesity and associated disorders.

ConclusionsAmong the Faroese populations studied, the prevalence of type 2 diabetes increased with age and was more prevalent among men. The detected prevalence was comparable to other Nordic countries for all age-groups.

This study was designed to assess whether changes in DD are associated with HbA1c change beyond BMI change in individuals with prediabetes. Hierarchical regression showed changes in BMI (p = 0.008) and the $1000 DD task (p = 0.04) were associated with HbA1c change beyond demographic characteristics, with the full model accounting for 25.8% of the variance. Those with greater BMI increases and greater increases in discounting of the future showed the greatest increases in HbA1c. DD represents a novel target to pre vent progression from prediabetes to type 2 diabetes.
