High prevalence of abdominal aortic aneurysm in patients with inguinal hernia. Aortic aneurysm in inguinal hernia patients.

CONCLUSION: There is an increased prevalence of AAA in patients with ΙΗ, especially in smokers, with hypertension and with bilateral and/or direct hernia. Hence, periodic ultrasonound may play an important role in screening and early diagnosis of AAA in these patients. PMID: 30697034 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Introduction: We sought to determine whether ultrasound-guided arterial cannulation (USGAC) is more successful than traditional radial artery cannulation (AC) as performed by emergency medicine (EM) residents with standard ultrasound training. Methods: We identified 60 patients age 18 years or older at a tertiary care, urban academic emergency department who required radial AC for either continuous blood pressure monitoring or frequent blood draws. Patients were randomized to receive radial AC via either USGAC or traditional AC. If there were three unsuccessful attempts, patients were crossed over to the alternative techniq...

Experimental Models of Tauopathy - From Mechanisms to Therapies. Adv Exp Med Biol. 2019;1184:381-391 Authors: Götz JJ, Götz J Abstract Animal models have been instrumental in reproducing key aspects of human tauopathy. In pursuing these efforts, the mouse continues to have a prominent role. In this chapter, we focus on models that overexpress wild-type or mutant forms of tau, the latter being based on mutations found in familial cases of frontotemporal dementia. We review some of these models in more detail and discuss what they have revealed about the underlying pathomechanisms, as well...

Authors: Jačisko J, Sobotová K, Mezian K Abstract This case presents the utility of ultrasound examination in diagnostics, providing accurate therapy and follow-up of entrapment syndrome of the ulnar nerve, caused by heterotopic ossification. The heterotopic ossifications were in this case presumably linked to a long-term working with a vibration sander. PMID: 32096802 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Hosokawa T, Suzuki S, Tanami Y, Sato Y, Ko Y, Nomura K, Oguma E, Yamada Y Abstract In contrast to computed tomography, ultrasound can be performed without radiation exposure, repeatedly performed by the patients' bedside. Hence, in this case series, we describe the evaluation of complications including hematoma, superficialsurgical site infection, mediastinitis, and pseudoaneurysm associated mediastinitis using ultrasound in pediatric patients after cardiovascular surgery. To our knowledge, no previous reports have evaluated such complications using ultrasound. Ultrasound may be useful for the early diagno...

Authors: Morisaki T, Fukuhara T, Matsuda E, Moritani S, Miyake N, Koyama S, Fujiwara K, Takeuchi H Abstract Lymphadenopathy is frequently observed in immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4)-related disease in some cases, and such cases are known as IgG4-related lymphadenopathy. The ultrasonography findings associated with IgG4-related lymphadenopathy have not been described in previous reports. Herein, we describe ultrasonography findings in two cases of IgG4-related lymphadenopathy in conjunction with histopathological findings. Combined ultrasound scanning with Doppler examination accurately represented the specific histopathol...
