Comparison of Efficacy and Tolerability of Hylan G-F 20 in Patients with and without Effusions at the Time of Initial Injection

This study compares efficacy of hylan G-F 20 in patients with and without an effusion. Patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA) received three weekly injections of hylan G-F 20. A total of 50 patients with an effusion requiring aspiration were compared with 50 matched patients without an effusion. Outcome measurements included Western Ontario and McMaster's Universities Osteoarthritis index (WOMAC) and visual analog scale (VAS). Patients were followed for 26 weeks. Both effusion and control group VAS was significantly lowered at all time points. WOMAC scores improved (p

The objective was to see whether the laser moxibustion is non-inferior to the traditional moxibustion in alleviating symptoms of knee osteoarthritis such as pain, stiffness, and joint dysfunction as well as improving quality of life for the patients with knee osteoarthritis, and whether a further RCT directly comparing the laser and traditional moxibustion is necessary. Poole d data from two RCTs in patients with knee osteoarthritis, trial ISRCTN68475405 and trial ISRCTN26065334, were used. In the two RCTs, the eligibility criteria were almost identical, the treatment procedure (i.e., sessions, duration, and points) were s...

Nonoperative measures are often used as first line treatment in ankle osteoarthritis. One of these measures consists of hyaluronic acid injections in the affected ankle joint, but efficiency of this treatment is uncertain. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effect on Self-reported Foot and Ankle Score, visual analog scale score at rest, and visual analog scale score at activity 6 months after a single dose of hyaluronic acid in patients with ankle osteoarthritis. Patients were included from December 2017 to March 2019.
