Abstract Zoonoses such as Brucella, Mycobacterium bovis, Campylobacter, Salmonella, Escherichia coli, Listeria, etc. are spread by ingestion of contaminated unpasteurised milk products (from infected cattle) and result in infectious outbreaks, hospitalisations and mortality. In Southeast Asian countries, raw goat's milk is sometimes used for dengue infection-associated thrombocytopenia; however, evidence to support this sociocultural practice is lacking. A peak incidence of brucellosis cases may occur after a dengue season in communities where this practice is prevalent. PMID: 30895885 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conclusion: The falling number of salmonellosis cases in 2000⁻2017 in WaM reflects the general trend in Poland and Europe. The decrease of NTS infections in WaM is related to the accession of Poland into the EU. PMID: 30897848 [PubMed - in process]

We report here the consolidation of routinely collected data to model the public health risks from consumption of this food. Amongst 2110 samples collected at Border Inspection, wholesale, catering or retail, Salmonella was detected in 488 (23%) of samples tested between 2011 and 2017 and was the most commonly Salmonella-contaminated ready-to-eat food examined by Public Health England during this period. Using data from multiple samples (usually 5) tested per consignment sampled at Border Inspection, contamination levels were calculated by most probable number: seasonal, temporal and country specific differences were detec...

i Mancianti Salmonella enterica serotype Enteritidis and S. enterica serotype Typhimurium are frequently present among poultry and are associated with outbreaks of human salmonellosis. The study investigated the in vitro antimicrobial activity of essential oils (EOs) obtained from Aloysia triphylla, Cinnamomum zeylanicum, Cymbopogon citratus, Litsea cubeba, Mentha piperita, Syzygium aromaticum against S. Enteritidis and S. Thyphimurium strains previously isolated from poultry. A 1:1 mixture of C. zeylanicum and S. aromaticum was also tested. The activity of all compounds was evaluated against the yeast Saccharomyces...

Publication date: Available online 27 February 2019Source: PlasmidAuthor(s): Robert A. Moran, Isabella A. Richardson, Ruth M. HallAbstractTwo B/O plasmids were sequenced. The kanamycin resistance plasmid R805a was found in a Salmonella Typhi strain from a 1972 typhoid fever outbreak in Mexico City. pCERC6, which confers resistance to ampicillin, streptomycin and sulphamethoxazole, was found in a commensal E. coli isolated from a healthy adult in Sydney in 2008. Both plasmids contain the same gene for RNAI, the incompatibility determinant, as the reference B/O plasmid pMU707 and the recently reported plasmid p838B-R, which ...

ws SC Abstract Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis (SE) is the most frequently-detected Salmonella in foodborne outbreaks in the European Union. Among such outbreaks, egg and egg products were identified as the most common vehicles of infection. Possibly, the major antibacterial property of egg white is iron restriction, which results from the presence of the iron-binding protein, ovotransferrin. To circumvent iron restriction, SE synthesise catecholate siderophores (i.e. enterobactin and salmochelin) that can chelate iron from host iron-binding proteins. Here, we highlight the role of lipocalin-like proteins ...
