Ferret genome sequenced, holds clues to respiratory diseases

(University of Washington Health Sciences/UW Medicine) The draft sequence of the ferret genome provides genetic information important to the study of respiratory disorders. Scientists are now able to examine the network of the animal's genes activated in response to various forms of influenza. Genetic analysis also shows that cystic fibrosis lung damage begins and significantly increases during the first days of life.
