Dorsomedial prefrontal rTMS as a treatment for treatment-resistant depression: A 3-arm, sham-controlled trial

Introduction: Recent open-label studies report that excitatory repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) over the dorsomedial prefrontal cortex (dmPFC) may be clinically beneficial for a variety of psychiatric disorders, including treatment-resistant major depressive disorder (TRD), eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, comorbid post-traumatic stress disorder borderline personality disorder. However, the clinical efficacy of dmPFC-rTMS is heterogeneous, and have been formally evaluated in only one randomized controlled trial of modest sample size.
