Genetic diversity of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae in Mendoza province.
Genetic diversity of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae in Mendoza province. Rev Argent Microbiol. 2019 Jan 13;: Authors: Sosa C, Blois A, Ibáñez F, Tamiozzo P Abstract In Argentina, enzootic pneumonia (EP) is highly prevalent and different genetic types of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae have been identified. However, there is a lack of information about prevalence and other epidemiological aspects of EP in Mendoza province. A multiple Locus variable-number tandem repeat analysis (MLVA) targeting P97 R1, P97 R1A and P146 R3 loci was used to assess the genetic diversity of M. hyopneumoniae from clinical specimens recovered from pigs from five herds located in different districts of Mendoza province. M. hyopneumoniae could be typed from 27 bronchoalveolar lavages (BAL) specimens, and eight different MLVA types were identified. This is the first report about diversity of M. hyopneumoniae in Mendoza. Results obtained in this work allow drawing a better picture of the genetic diversity of this pathogen in Argentina. Conclusions Overall, a majority of patients recovered well postoperatively with minimal complications and low rate of reoperation. Our research provides a foundation to develop a risk-stratified approach to determine the need for an ICU admission or early transfer to floor care.
Conclusion: PPCs after abdominal surgery are still a major problem since they have profound effects on outcomes. Our results suggest that programs before surgery, involve preoperative lifestyle changes, such as nutritional supplementation, exercise, stress reduction, and smoking cessation, were an effective strategy in mitigating postoperative complications by decreasing mortality. Conclusions: IBV should not be neglected because of its significant mortality. The elderly and patients with comorbidities, such as hypertension, diabetes, and connective tissue diseases, are more likely to have severe IBV-related pneumonia. Higher heart rates, direct bilirubin levels, initial PSI scores, and lower platelet levels are correlated with hospital mortality. Increased uptake in tetravalent influenza vaccine should be very helpful in preventing future cases of IBV hospitalizations. PMID: 31828141 [PubMed - in process]
In this study, the effects of PHD2 in colon cancer were evaluated, and the underlying molecular mechanisms were investigated. The results showed that overexpressing PHD2 exerted proliferative and migratory inhibition in colon cancer cells. The expression of cell cycle and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-associated proteins were changed: CyclinD1, CDK4, N-cadherin, and Vimentin were down-regulated, while E-cadherin was up-regulated in PHD2-overexpressing colon cancer cells. Moreover, in colon cancer xenograft mice, PHD2 overexpression suppressed tumor growth accompanied by decreased Ki67 expression. Importantly, we ...

(CNN/CBS) — At least 1,300 people have died from the flu so far this season, according to a preliminary estimate released Friday by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. There have been at least 2.6 million flu illnesses and 23,000 flu-related hospitalizations, according to the analysis. So far this season, the CDC has received reports of 10 children who have died from the flu, four more than the week before. Experts have warned that flu is hitting the United States early this year, and there are concerns that this early season could mean a particularly severe season overall. Flu spread significantly in ...
ConclusionsIPAF seems to a distinct entity, with a low tendency to evolve in a definite CTD. Nevertheless, further studies are needed to better define the clinical evolution and the outcome of IPAF.

Conclusions: Our study suggests that endovascular recanalization for subacute to chronic symptomatic atherosclerotic BAO appears to be feasible in selected patients.
We report two cases of acquired factor XIII deficiency with bleeding events during veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Case 1: A 76-year-old man diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia after near-drowning was started on ECMO. Later, the patient presented with hemoptysis and anemia. Blood tests showed a decreased factor XIII activity of 29%. Although the patient recovered after receiving 1200 International Units of factor XIII concentrate, the patient had another episode of decreased factor XIII activity and bloody stool and was treated again with factor XIII concentrate. Case 2: A 48-year-old female diagnos...
