177. Impact of Health Check-Ups In Early And Mid/Late Adolescence In Low And Middle-Income Countries

Adolescents (10-19 years) have some of the lowest numbers of contacts with health services, especially for preventive services. As a result, they miss out on important opportunities for accessing counseling and advice to reduce risk behaviors. The importance of routine, scheduled clinical contacts (check-up visits) is well established for newborn infants and young children. However, there are no such global recommendations for adolescents. Yet, it is possible that two adolescent check-up visits, one early and one later in adolescence could be highly effective and cost-effective for improving adolescent health, if accompanied by a vigorous response to any problems identified.
