Risk factors for childhood overweight and obesity in Ukraine and Germany.

CONCLUSION: Similar risk factors for obesity were observed among two groups of children in UA and DE. Differences were observed regarding the prevalence of specific risk factors for childhood obesity. To our opinion, the population-specific distribution of risk factors has to be considered in order to optimize prevention and treatment strategies. PMID: 30630809 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

In this study, we assessed the effects of pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) and gestational weight gain (GWG) on the pregnancy outcomes of women of advanced age using a back-propagation (BP) artificial neural network. We conducted a retrospective analysis on postpartum and hospital delivery data from 1,015 women of advanced maternal age (AMA) hospitalized at the Fujian Provincial Maternity and Children's Hospital from January to June, 2017. Pre-pregnancy overweight was found to increase the incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), hypertensive disorders complicating pregnancy (HDCP) and fetal macrosomia. In addi...

AbstractBackgroundGestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a major public health problem and threat to maternal and child health in Africa. No prior review has been conducted in Africa using the updated GDM diagnostic criteria. Therefore, this review aimed to estimate the pooled prevalence and determinants of GDM in Africa by using current international diagnostic criteria.MethodsA systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted by comprehensive search of the published studies in Africa. Electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Google Scholar, CINAHL, Web of Science, Science direct and African Journa...

CONCLUSIONS: More studies should be conducted to prove the most effective nutritional intervention in GDM. Regarding the potential effectiveness of MI, further evidences in multicenter , randomized controlled trials are needed to draw firm conclusions. PMID: 31333107 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Targeting Glycemic Level in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus to that of Normal Pregnancy would result in a better Maternal-Fetal Outcome. J Assoc Physicians India. 2019 Apr;67(4):66-70 Authors: Seshiah V, Kapur A, Balaji V, Shah SN, Das AK, Diwakar H, Banerjee S, Anjalakshi C Abstract Abstract: Women with a history of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) are at increased risk of future diabetes and related Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) as are their offspring. "Transgenerational transmission occurs". Independent of genetic risk, offspring of hyperglycaemic pregnancies are at increased risk...

ConclusionsThere is neither concerted effort to diagnose GDM, nor systematic records of screening and postpartum follow-up. The gap in diabetology knowledge and practice calls for re-training of antenatal healthcare professionals. GDM screening checklist needs to be established and positive results entered into GDM registers for proper management during and after delivery.

CONCLUSIONS Among the pregnant women, greater adherence to “ traditional Brazilian ” and “ healthy ” patterns was inversely associated with obesity, but no relationship was identified with gestational diabetes mellitus after adjusting for excessive body weight. Prospective studies are recommended to investigate the relationship between dietary patterns, overweight and gestational diabetes mellitus, reducing the chance of reverse causality.RESUMO OBJETIVO Investigar a rela ção entre os padrões alimentares de gestantes com o excesso de peso materno e o diabetes mellitus gestaciona...

The prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) has been dramatically increasing worldwide including China[1], accounting for 7% of pregnant women in the world[2]. It is well established that GDM predisposes pregnant women to high risk of delivery of macrosomic infants while lifestyle intervention of GDM reduces the rate of macrosomia or large for gestational age (LGA) infants although not all trials showed that such intervention was also able to reduce the risk of perinatal morbidities[3,4].
