Re: Postoperative Pain and Opioid Analgesic Requirements After Orthognathic Surgery

We read with interest the article by Mobini et  al.1 We appreciate their effort to emphasize the concept of postoperative pain and opioid analgesic requirements after orthognathic surgery. What we want to add is the fact that, rather than using opioids alone for the management of pain after orthognathic surgery, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory d rugs (NSAIDs) should be combined with opioids as part of a balanced analgesia regimen. NSAIDs allow the spare use of opioids and subsequently might decrease the opioid-mediated side effects as mentioned by the authors.
