Magness, Ian M. BirdAbstractEnhancement of vasodilation of uterine arteries during pregnancy occurs through increased connexin (Cx)43 gap junction (GJ) communication supporting more frequent and sustained Ca2+ ‘bursts’. Such adaptation is lacking in subjects with preeclampsia (PE). Here we show TNF-alpha, commonly increased in PE subjects, inhibits Cx43 function and Ca2+ bursts in pregnancy-derived ovine uterine artery en...

Higher mob sizes at lambing have been suggested to decrease the survival of twin-born lambs. However, our recent work indicated that this effect may not occur when feed-on-offer (FOO) exceeds 2400 kg DM/ha during the lambing period. Increasing mob size at lambing when FOO is limited may exacerbate the risk of mismothering due to the need for ewes to seek feed and ...

Authors: Campbell RK, Devick KL, Coull BA, Cowell W, Askowitz T, Goldson B, Wright RO, Wright RJ Abstract Women's experience of trauma may cause lifelong alterations in physiological stress regulation, which can be transmitted to offspring in utero. We investigated, in a prospective pregnancy cohort, associations among maternal lifetime interpersonal trauma (IPT) history, prenatal cortisol dysregulation, and children's memory domains. Sex-specific effects were also explored. Pregnant women were enrolled from Brigham &Women's Hospital and affiliated clinics near Boston, MA, in 2002-2007. IPT was assessed with th...

This study showed that potential vicious cycles underlying ARDs are quite diverse and unique, triggered by diverse and unique factors that do not usually progress with age, thus casting doubts on the possibility of discovering the single molecular cause of aging and developing the single anti-aging pill. Rather, each disease appears to require an individual approach. However, it still cannot be excluded that some or all of these cycles are triggered by fundamental processes of aging, such as chronic inflammation or accumulation of senescent cells. Nevertheless, experimental data showing clear cause and effect relationships...

A single IVF clinic cannot possibly be right for all IVF patients . This means patients need to make a trade-off when selecting an IVF clinic !Should they go to the cheapest ? the nearest ? the most well known one ? the one who advertises the most ? the one who holds free camps ? the one who their GP sends them to ?I believe every doctor gets the patient they deserve, and every patient gets the doctor they deserve. This is why it's very important that the patients who come to us are those who appreciate the unique value which we add to IVF treatment. What makes us special is we have a lot of experience and expertise, and bec...

CONCLUSION: Antenatal caregiving representations can be assessed with a time-efficient self-report measure that assesses caregiving as a multidimensional construct. Prenatal treatment planning should target individual difficulties in undertaking transformation of the caregiving system. PMID: 30767656 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Sepsis is a leading cause of pregnancy-related mortality. Previous studies have reported an increased prevalence of sepsis during pregnancy. Despite national campaigns to increase sepsis awareness, there is a lack of pregnancy-specific guidelines.

Low-dose aspirin (LDA) is used for preeclampsia (PE) prevention in high-risk women, but the precise mechanism and optimal dose are unknown. Evidence suggests that an imbalance in prostacyclin and thromboxane A2 (TXA2) plays a key role in the pathogenesis of PE. Aspirin has a dose-dependent effect blocking production of TXA2, a potent stimulator of platelet aggregation and promoter of vasoconstriction. Incomplete inhibition of platelet aggregation, designated aspirin resistance, can be reduced by increasing the aspirin dose.
