Quantifying unmet prevention needs among MSM in Europe through a multi-site bio-behavioural survey.

ConclusionThe Sialon II project has made an important contribution to the monitoring and evaluation of the HIV epidemic across Europe, integrating the use of GAM indicators within a second generation HIV surveillance systems approach and in participatory collaboration with MSM communities. It influenced the harmonisation of European data collection procedures and indicators via GAM country reporting and contributed essential knowledge informing the development and implementation of strategic, evidence-based HIV prevention campaigns for MSM. CONCLUSIONS: If there is a causal association between DMPA use and HIV risk, it could have substantially increased the scale of the HIV epidemic in South Africa, affecting not only the users of DMPA, but also their partners and the wider population. The magnitude of this potential effect demands careful data collection and a careful consideration of policy choices for contraception in settings with large HIV epidemics. Advances in antiretroviral treatment enable persons with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection to live a normal lifespan, as long as they know that they are infected and adhere to treatment. Treatment that leads to an undetectable viral load prevents transmission of HIV to others. Since 2013, however, the rate of new HIV diagnoses in the United States has stabilized, not decreased. Continued viral transmission occurs from persons unaware of their HIV status, or not receiving effective treatment. To end the AIDS epidemic, what strategies can be used to increase the rate of early diagnosis and treatment?

More millennials in the U.S. are suffering from chronic health problems, potentially restraining the lifetime economic potential of a generation of young adults. A spike in conditions like depression, hypertension and high cholesterol among younger people could increase health-care costs and lower incomes in coming years, according to a report Wednesday from the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, a federation of 36 independent companies that together provide coverage for 1 in 3 Americans. Between 2014 and 2017, rates of depression among millennials surged by 31%, while hyperactivity rose 29% and hypertension increased 16%...
