Predictors of in-hospital mortality in very eldery patients presenting with acute coronary syndrome: A single-center study. Turk Kardiyol Dern Ars. 2019 Jan;47(1):38-44 Authors: Yılmaz S, Adalı MK, Kılıç O, Til A, Yaylalı YT, Dursunoğlu D, Kaftan HA Abstract OBJECTIVE: Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) has become more frequent in the elderly population due to increased life expectancy. The aim of this trial was to determine clinical and laboratory factors related to in-hospital mortality in patients over 80 years of age who presented with ACS. METHODS: A total 171 patients (86 men, median age 83 years) who were over 80 years of age and were hospitalized due to a diagnosis of ACS were enrolled in this study. The patients' demographic data, clinical features, and laboratory values were screened retrospectively from hospital records. RESULTS: During the follow-up period, 19 of 171 patients (11.1%) died. The causes of death were cardiogenic shock (n=6, 31.5%), acute renal failure (n=6, 31.5%), arrhythmia (n=4, 21%), and septic shock (n=3, 15.7%). ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction presentation was more common among those who died [14 (73.7%) vs. 31 (20.5%); p

Publication date: 1 January 2020Source: Colloids and Surfaces B: Biointerfaces, Volume 185Author(s): Wan Bei, Li Jing, Nie ChenAbstractWogonin, one of the main active ingredients of Scutellaria radix, is a kind of flavonoid compound. In the present study, we report that wogonin nanoparticles (Wog np) protect Isoproterenol (ISO) induced Myocardial Infarction (MI) rats. Nanoparticles of sizes less than 200 nm with spherical shape were prepared using Polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) and Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) respectively as polymer and stabilizer. Male Wistar rats were divided into 4 groups. Group 1 as a control group a...

Resveratrol Protects the Myocardium in Sepsis by Activating the Phosphatidylinositol 3-Kinases (PI3K)/AKT/Mammalian Target of Rapamycin (mTOR) Pathway and Inhibiting the Nuclear Factor-κB (NF-κB) Signaling Pathway. Med Sci Monit. 2019 Dec 06;25:9290-9298 Authors: Shang X, Lin K, Yu R, Zhu P, Zhang Y, Wang L, Xu J, Chen K Abstract BACKGROUND Sepsis combined with myocardial injury is an important cause of septic shock and multiple organ failure. However, the molecular mechanism of sepsis-induced myocardial dysfunction has not yet been thoroughly studied. Resveratrol has been an important rese...

Authors: Schulte C, Zeller T Abstract Cardiovascular (CV) risk assessment is based on the utilization of risk scores, enabling clinicians to estimate an individual's risk to develop CV pathologies and events. Such risk scores comprise classic CV risk factors such as smoking, diabetes, hypertension, and blood cholesterol levels. Recently, other CV biomarkers such as cardiac troponins have been suggested and evaluated as alternative biomarkers not only in the acute diagnostic setting of myocardial infarction, but also as markers for risk stratification in the general population. In this review, we summarize the curre...

Authors: Chen FF, Tang HY, Yu F, Que CL, Zhou FD, Wang SX, Wang GF, Zhao MH Abstract A 43-year-old Chinese man with a silicosis history was admitted to our hospital due to bilateral lower extremity edema for 1 year, exacerbating with hematuria for 2 months. He started working as a coal miner 30 years ago, and was diagnosed as silicosis 3 months ago. Lab tests revealed hematuria 3+, proteinuria 3+, and a serum creatinine value 2.47 mg/dl on routine check. He was diagnosed with focal proliferative IgA nephropathy (IgAN) and acute tubulo-interstitial nephritis by renal biopsy. He was...

Conclusion: In conclusion, the available best evidence support an association between frailty and AKI among elder patients, thus relevant interventions should be taken among elderly under potential risk of AKI. PMID: 31809623 [PubMed - in process]

Conclusions: CPLNs intraoperative assessment is less accurate during IDS compared to previous PDS studies. CPLNs removal during IDS after NACT for stage IV OC could be safely performed to achieve a complete resection. PMID: 31809609 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

ConclusionsA positive effect of the Mediterranean diet, and fruit and vegetable intake was observed on hsCRP and the occurrence of effective myocardial reperfusion. These findings confirm the favorable impact of Mediterranean diet adherence not only in primary but also in secondary prevention.

Authors: Lionetti V, Barile L Abstract Over the last 20 years increasing number of patients with multimorbidity and polypharmacy underwent different types of elective non-cardiac and cardiac surgery. Despite surgery is safer today than in the past, rate of perioperative major adverse cardiovascular events is still attracting significant attention from both clinicians and researchers. The perioperative myocardial infarction (PMI), a permanent damage of the heart, is a major cause of short and long term morbidity and mortality in current surgical populations. Although it is primarily the result of local myocardial is...
