Christian Spirituality and Smartphone Addiction in Adolescents: A Comparison of High-Risk, Potential-Risk, and Normal Control Groups

AbstractThe goal of this study was to compare aspects of Christian spirituality such as God ’s image and sense of spiritual well-being among three groups: the high-risk, potential-risk and normal control groups for smartphone addiction. Participants were: 11 adolescents in the high-risk group for smartphone addiction; 20 adolescents who were potentially at risk of smartphone addiction, a nd 254 adolescents who were in the normal control group. The results showed that the high-risk group for smartphone addiction adolescent group showed low levels of spiritual well-being and positive image of God comparing to those in the potential-risk and control groups. Each group had specific and distinctive features. Consideration of potential clinical interventions, limitations of the current study, and suggestions for future research are discussed.

It seems to interact with several individual and environmental factors. OBJECTIVES: We aim to spot internet addiction in a Tunisian adolescent population, and to study its relationship with personal and family factors, as well as with anxious and depressive comorbidities. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study of 253...

Abstract BACKGROUND: As opioid abuse and addiction have developed into a major national health crisis, prescription of opioids for pain management has become more controversial. However, opioids do help some patients by providing pain relief and improving the quality of life. To better understand the addictive properties of opioids under chronic pain conditions, we used a conditioned place preference (CPP) paradigm to examine the rewarding properties of morphine in rats with persistent nociception. METHODS: Spared nerve injury (SNI) model was used to induce persistent nociception in rats. Nociceptive behavior...

Opioid abuse has become a critical threat to individuals and communities in the U.S. Unfortunately, physicians and other health care providers may unintentionally be contributing to the epidemic, as prescription opioid use often precedes opioid misuse, abuse, and addiction. Adequate pain management, however, remains an integral component of patient-centered care, particularly for surgical procedures. The purpose of this study is to characterize opioid prescription patterns among Mohs surgeons, to analyze how these practices may vary based on procedural volume, and to compare these practices to those of nonsurgical dermatol...

Abstract Development of the whole-cell patch-clamp electrophysiology technique has allowed for enhanced visualization and experimentation of ionic currents in neurons of mammalian tissue with high spatial and temporal resolution. Electrophysiology has become an exceptional tool for identifying single cellular mechanisms underlying behavior. Specifically, the role of glutamatergic signaling through α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA) and N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors underlying behavior has been extensively studied. Here we will discuss commonly used protocols and techniques fo...
